Ensemble Fractales performs Gérard Grisey’s masterpiece from the spectral movement, Vortex Temporum, accompanied by live painting by artist Dimitri Bardunov at the Projection Room in Brussels. The piece is made up of three movements, each presenting its own temporality: the measured time of humans, the super-slow time of whales, and the frenetically rapid time of insects.
Using the surfaces around the musicians in the hall as his playground, Dimitri Bardunov will animate Fractales’ performance of Vortex Temporum by painting improvised organic forms along with the music, inspired by the three temporalities of the piece.
Fractales’ performance will be preceded by a live performance by Isabelle Sainte-Rose of her original piece Collines. Isabelle Sainte-Rose is a musician, composer and sound artist whose creations – for cello, voice, objects, field recordings, sound and visual installations and radio – are guided by sensitive listening.
